Opportunity Card – Key Facts

Basic requirements:

  • At least 2 years of vocational training or a university degree.

  • Basic German (A1) or English (B2).

  • Ability to finance your own living expenses.

  • Meet at least 6 points in the Opportunity Card points system.

Main benefits:

  • Easy entry: No job offer needed in advance. Stay in Germany for 1 year to job-hunt, work part-time (up to 20h/week), or take trial jobs.

  • Path to permanent residence: Extend stay if you secure a part-time or full-time job with employer proof.

  • Fair income: Minimum wage €12.41/hour (as of July 2024) → over €1,000/month for 20h/week.
