What is the APS Certificate and Why is it Mandatory?
Since November 2022, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in New Delhi has made the Akademische Prüfstelle (APS) Certificate an indispensable prerequisite for Indian students applying for higher education in Germany. Without an original APS certificate, German universities cannot issue final admission letters, and VFS Global will not accept your German student visa application.

Document Checklist for Indian Students
Before initiating your online application on the official APS India portal (aps-india.info), ensure you have certified, legible scanned copies of the following documents:
- Printed and signed APS application form with recent passport-size photographs.
- Copy of valid Indian passport (information and address pages).
- Class 10th and 12th mark sheets and passing certificates.
- Consolidated Bachelor's degree mark sheets and provisional / final degree certificate (for Master's applicants).
- English Language Proficiency proof (IELTS Academic minimum 6.5 or TOEFL iBT).
- German Language Certificate (Goethe-Zertifikat A1-B2 if applicable to your program).
- APS Verification Fee payment receipt (INR 18,000 via online bank transfer).
Step-by-Step Application Process
The entire verification workflow comprises four sequential phases:
Step 1: Online Registration — Register on aps-india.info, fill in your personal, academic, and language qualification details accurately.
Step 2: Fee Payment — Pay the verification fee of INR 18,000 to the official APS bank account via NEFT/RTGS and upload the transaction receipt.
Step 3: Courier Document Submission — Print the application confirmation, assemble all self-attested documents, and courier them to the APS New Delhi office.
Step 4: Academic Verification & Digital Certificate — The APS team verifies your academic credentials directly with your university or examination board. Once verified, you will receive your digital APS certificate via registered email.
